The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the teams most likely to be in the hunt for a running back in this year's draft after saying adios to Doug Martin, and Tampa Bay took Ronald Jones 38th overall.
At first glance, a depth chart with Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers at the top is far from terrifying. But by our metrics, Barber was pretty darn good in 2017, vastly outperforming his backfield mates, so we shouldn't expect Barber to completely vanish.
With that said, Jones is coming off a monster season at USC, going for 1,550 rushing yards and 20 total tuddies, and at least one Tampa beat writer thinks Jones is in line for 15 to 20 touches per game right out of the gates. That's not quite a bell-cow workload, but if Jones gets that kind of volume, it would make him the clear guy to own in the Bucs' backfield.
That's how our projections see things playing out. We peg Jones for 212 total carries and catches -- with 180 of those being rushing attempts -- while projecting Barber for 104. Jones is our RB30, and Barber is our RB62.
