Entering his age-35 season and returning home to play for the Miami Dolphins, most people wrote off Frank Gore in fantasy. The Dolphins had a young, dynamic back already and Gore was coming off a dismal season where he gained just 3.7 yards per carry. To our surprise though, the 14-year veteran is not only a viable fantasy asset, he is leading the Dolphins' backfield in carries this season.
Through 5 games, Gore has 47 rushing attempts compared to 39 for Kenyan Drake. The vet has been outproducing his younger counterpart too, averaging 4.3 yards per carry compared to a sub-4.0 rate for Drake.
Toting the rock fewer than 10 times per game may not seem like much, but for a back available in 90% of Yahoo! leagues, he can be a godsend for those in bye week binds. The last two weeks, both losing efforts, Gore's touches have actually gone up too, totaling 25 (23 rushes, 2 catches) in Weeks 4 and 5. With Miami a 3.5-point home underdog to the Chicago Bears, the vet should be around the 10-touch mark again in Week 6.
The matchup against a stout Bears' defense is not ideal, but in fantasy volume is everything and Gore is in line for a solid workload on Sunday.
