5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 6

Nathan Peterman Has the Third-Worst Interception Rate in the Modern Era

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen may be looking at a lengthy absence. The Bills signed Derek Anderson last week. But if he is not yet up to speed with the Bills' offense, the team would likely be forced to turn to Nathan Peterman.

Peterman attempted 12 passes relief of Allen on Sunday, but it is fair to say he didn’t exactly help the team. He threw two interceptions, including a game-sealing pick six. The interception return for a score was the second of his career.

Peterman playing for any extended time would continue to make whoever is playing the Bills a defense to target in fantasy football, given Peterman’s historic tendency to throw interceptions. Nine of his 79 career attempts have ended up in the hands of opposing defenders. Of all quarterbacks with at least 75 career pass attempts in the NFL since 1950, Peterman’s interceptions rate of 11.39% is the third-highest. Only Alan Pastrana (12.00% in 1970) and Wayne Clark (11.67% between 1970-75) have thrown picks at a higher rate.

The Bills face the Indianapolis Colts this week, and the Colts have six interceptions already this season. They’re widely available in ESPN leagues and make for a solid streaming option whether it's Anderson or Peterman at the controls.
