The Broncos Have Allowed a 200-Yard Rusher in Back-to-Back Weeks

The Denver Broncos are a team with a lot of problems at the present moment, not the least of which comes at the quarterback spot. The Mile High faithful made their feelings known when Chad Kelly entered the game just prior to halftime in Week 6 to a chorus of cheers. He was on in relief of Case Keenum to only take a knee, but it's clear Keenum is trending in the wrong direction.

However poorly Keenum has performed -- and he has been poor -- he is far from the only weak spot on the team. The once vaunted defense, led by its “No Fly Zone” secondary, is seemingly no more, replaced by a unit with a “Come On In” attitude, particularly on the ground.

The Broncos surrendered 205 rushing yards to Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley on Sunday, the second 200-yard rusher the team has allowed in their last two games. They are the first team in NFL history to allow two running backs to eclipse 200 yards in back-to-back weeks.

Sunday marked the third straight game with a player gaining at least 100 yards on the ground against the Broncos. Kareem Hunt had 121 yards and a touchdown in Week 4, and Isaiah Crowell set a new franchise record for the New York Jets for single game rushing yards when he amassed 219 in Week 5. And then Gurley did his thing in Week 6.

Fantasy owners of David Johnson will no doubt be hoping that DJ can find something approaching similar form, as Johnson and the Arizona Cardinals lock horns with the Broncos on Thursday night. Johnson hasn’t rushed for more than 71 yards in a single game this season, despite averaging 19.3 rushing attempts per game over his last three. The movable force could be about to hit the resistible object.
