If you're looking for a waiver wire quarterback, it's slim pickings this week. After being able to find solid combinations of capable passers and plus matchups for most of the season, things get a bit ugly in Week 8.
Case Keenum has not been particularly efficient from a real-world standpoint, ranking 23rd among the 38 quarterbacks with at least 50 drop backs this season in numberFire's Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back metric. He also ranks only 29th among quarterbacks in fantasy points per game.
He has not been completely hopeless, though, with three games of at least 19 fantasy points. He's also got a couple of total duds in his game log, but that's the kind of compromise you have to make this week.
His matchup is also a reasonable one (even though he failed to capitalize on it in Week 4), taking on the Kansas City Chiefs.
While their offensive prowess is undeniable, our models have KC as only the 27th-ranked defense in the league. The uptempo, high-scoring games they get into have opened the door for plenty of fantasy production on the other side, and they have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.
This contest has a hefty 54.5-point over/under (second-highest of the week), and even as big underdogs, the Denver passing game should be able to get something going.
