And just like that, he's gone.
In Week 6, Raheem Mostert looked like an electric player on a running back-friendly offense -- in other words, a waiver wire gem. In the following week (the San Francisco 49ers' blowout loss to the Los Angeles Rams), Mostert still managed an impressive 8.43 yards per carry and proved himself to be a capable pass-catcher in a negative game script.
He was certainly making a case for himself as a playmaker and a fantasy asset in those games, but Kyle Shanahan shut down those hopes last week. Mostert handled just two carries in Week 8, while teammate Matt Breida resumed his lead-back role with a Wolverine-esque display of regenerative powers.
Mostert's now dealing with an ankle injury of his own and is questionable for Thursday night's game with the Oakland Raiders. In a league where you can lose your job in the blink of an eye, it seems like Mostert's time as a fantasy asset has come to an end unless the quick turnaround for this week's game prevents Breida from suiting up (and Mostert's ankle ailment isn't serious).
