After being selected with the number nine pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, John Ross has been a disappointment for the Cincinnati Bengals. The oft-injured wide receiver has been limited to just eight games played in the last season and a half. In the five games he has played this year, though, Ross has flashed the talent that made him a top-10 pick, scoring two touchdowns. With A.J. Green out of action on Sunday and Ross practicing in full this week, the second-year wideout has a tremendous opportunity versus the New Orleans Saints.
Without Green, the Bengals will be looking to replace his 26.2% target share and 85.8% snap share. Undoubtedly, Tyler Boyd will step up to fill the void, but that leaves Ross and Alex Erickson -- plus Josh Malone and Cody Core to a lesser extent -- to split up the remaining targets. Of those four receivers, Ross has seen the most targets this season (16). That is even as Erickson has been on the field for more snaps (197) than Ross (159).
The matchup against the Saints is a favorable one, too, as Vegas sees it as the highest scoring contest (54.0) of the remaining games in Week 10. The Saints have also given up the most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, making Ross a worthy gamble on Sunday.
