While it may have surprised some to see the Pittsburgh Steelers dismantle the Carolina Panthers last Thursday night, there were a few more predictable events that occurred within the game.
Antonio Brown finding the end zone came as no surprise to anyone as it marked the seventh straight game in which he had done this.
This is the longest current streak in the NFL, though it is not the best run a Steeler has ever had. Buddy Dial caught a scoring pass in 11 consecutive games spanning the 1959 and 1960 seasons. Jerry Rice owns the all-time record, scoring in 13 straight games across the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
Brown’s touchdown, one of five thrown by Ben Roethlisberger against the Panthers, marked the 69th time that these two players had connected for a score. This is the seventh-most successful combination in NFL history and is only three less than the next-best combination -- Marques Colston caught 72 touchdowns from Drew Brees for the New Orleans Saints.
As for Roethlisberger, his 22 completions from 25 attempts for 328 yards and 5 touchdowns gave him a perfect passer rating of 158.3. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to have four such games in his career.
An eighth straight game with a score, the 70th between these two, may not be so easy to come by in the Steelers next game. The Jacksonville Jaguars -- and Jalen Ramsey -- await Brown. According to PlayerProfiler, Ramsey has allowed only one touchdown this season. But Brown has done some serious damage matched up against some good corners already this season -- and he torched Jacksonville in last year's postseason -- so he's more than capable of a big game against anyone.
