The Denver Broncos' tight end carousel keeps turning as Jeff Heuerman joined teammate Jake Butt on injured reserve this week. Stepping into the starter’s role for Week 13 is Matt LaCosse.
LaCosse has been the second tight end in Denver since Week 4 when Butt tore his ACL. He has averaged 22.1 snaps per game, just over a third of offensive plays. Even in limited action, LaCosse has produced on the field, posting at least 29 yards in three of the last four games. The third-year pro also caught his first career touchdown last week versus Pittsburgh. Taking over a full complement of snaps should provide LaCosse plenty of action this Sunday versus the Bengals.
Through 11 games, the tight end position in Denver has racked up 82 targets or about 7.5 per game. If LaCosse can see that kind of volume against a Cincy squad allowing the most catches (71) and touchdowns (8) to tight ends this season, he should be knocking on the door of TE1 (top-12) status this Sunday.
