With LeSean McCoy going down with a hamstring injury early on against the Jets, Chris Ivory was the next man up for Buffalo, ultimately logging 12 carries for 42 yards. Hamstring injuries rarely go away quickly, so McCoy figures to be out in Week 15, which would set up Ivory for an increased workload.
But as it turns out, Ivory would also go down with an injury himself, so if both he and McCoy are held out this week, then that leaves Marcus Murphy as the next candidate to be Buffalo's lead back against the Lions.
Of course, this is the Bills we're talking about, and Murphy has all of 49 career carries in his fourth NFL season, so the situation doesn't exactly inspire much confidence. Still, he was given a career-high 14 carries for 69 yards in a blowout win over the Jets in Week 10, so the Bills shouldn't be shy about giving him touches, even if it's strictly out of necessity this time around. Entering Week 14, Detroit ranked just 24th against the run by numberFire's metrics.
Keep an eye on the injury news, but as a player virtually un-owned across the board, desperate owners could get a lifeline from Murphy. Don't expect any miracles, but sometimes beggars can't be choosers.
