6 Things I Learned From Week 12 of the NFL Season
It's Week 12, but we're still learning all kinds of things about the 2014 NFL season.

Colin Kaepernick Is Not Great

Head coach Jim Harbaugh is supposed to think his quarterback is great. But as a descriptor, "great" could explain a wide variety of quarterback performances. If we want to be realistic about a term that means "considerably above average", then Colin Kaepernick is not great.

Entering Week 12, Kaepernick's Passing NEP ranked 15th in the NFL. Good, not great. On a per drop back basis, Kap's 0.09 Passing NEP average was 17th-best. Again, solid, but it's not great.

He had a perfect matchup on Sunday against a 30th-ranked Washington secondary. The result? Just an above average game in terms of NEP.

The 49ers offense, when adjusted for strength of schedule, sat at 23rd in the league going into Week 12. Because the defense they faced was so poor on Sunday, I'd be surprised if it moved much after their win. This needs to change.
