Perhaps the Saints win in Pittsburgh last week had just as much to do with a bad Steelers defense as it did the Saints offense getting things together again. Because my goodness did they look awful yesterday.
Brees ended the game with a -8.09 Passing NEP total - against a bottom-tiered secondary - while Jimmy Graham added just 3 catches on 11 targets. Considering Graham's goose egg the week prior, fantasy owners certainly didn't get enough from him this season to warrant the first-round pick they spent.
But the defense has been worse than the offense has this season, and it's not even close. No unit has scored worse in terms of Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points than that Saints this season, and the Panthers' 41 points certainly won't help their cause. That's right -- the Panthers, who entered the week as the 26th-best offense in the NFL, dropped 41 on the Saints. In New Orleans.
It's sad that this team may make the playoffs.
