Joe Flacco put up a pretty big clunker in Week 1, which had partly to do with the game script -- it was a defensive struggle to say the least -- and partly to do with the fact that the Denver defense probably isn't anything to mess with this year.
Flacco mustered just 117 yards and 2 interceptions on 32 attempts (3.66 yards per attempt, which is a mark much more apropos for a yards per carry average) against what ended up being the stingiest Week 1 defense according to our Net Expected Points (NEP) metrics, which compare a team's performance to expectation level.
Denver's Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per play mark of -0.47 is entirely unsustainable (the best full-season mark since 2000 is -0.23). But Flacco isn't dealing with Denver again and instead will square off against the Oakland Raiders, who ranked 27th after Week 1 in the metric (0.39).
Flacco comes in as our 10th-ranked quarterback for Week 2.
