Before you go objecting to my characterization of Carson Palmer as a stud, hear me out. Over Palmer's last 16 games, dating back to 2013, he has put up 4,479 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns, with only 12 interceptions. Those stats, which would place him as the 6th highest quarterback in terms of passing yards and tied for 7th in terms of touchdowns in 2014, are QB1 numbers.
And Palmer only seems to be getting better. Through two games this season, Palmer is the second most efficient quarterback in the league in terms of Passing NEP per drop back, and has tossed seven touchdowns to only one interception.
Palmer's next matchup against the 49ers figures to be a good one as well, as he squares up against the 20th ranked passing defense in terms of Adjusted Defensive Passing NEP per pass. The 49ers also just got slaughtered by Ben Roethlisberger to the tune of 369 yards and 3 touchdown passes.
Palmer's price tag of $8,100 is imminently reasonable given the favorable matchup, the Cardinals' reluctance to give too many touches to the most talented running back in their lineup in David Johnson, and based on the season Palmer has had to date. Save a little cash by plugging Palmer in so you can grab more expensive studs elsewhere.
