When LeGarrette Blount was knocked out of this Sunday's contest against Houston, Brandon Bolden was called in to take over the power back role for the Patriots.
He responded by leading the backfield in snaps sans-Blount and turned 16 carries into 51 yards. He was vultured for a touchdown by third-down back James White, but the goal line carry came when the game was already out of hand against a struggling Houston squad. Bolden and his stout 5' 11", 220-pound frame, if Blount is sidelined for the next few games, could get his fair share of goal line touches in the future as well.
Last season, Blount demonstrated just how productive the power back role can be on the Patriots, with the Patriots' lead back amassing 281 yards and 3 touchdowns over the last five games of the season. And with the Patriots facing the Titans (13th-ranked rush defense), Jets (2nd), and Dolphins (20th) the final three weeks of the year, owners in desperate need of a starting running back could do worse than add him to their squads.
