Jharel Cotton was a popular sleeper in season long drafts this year but is still a relatively unknown commodity in fantasy baseball.
Including last season, he's only had seven starts in the Majors, but early returns have been solid. He has a career 4.05 SIERA with a 21.3% strikeout rate and 5.7% walk rate. Those numbers won't blow you away, but there's evidence the strikeout rate will improve. Last season, he struck out 155 batters in 135 2/3 innings in Triple-A and had a 12.5% swinging-strike rate across five Major League starts.
Thus, Cotton could be a deceptively tough matchup for the Texas Rangers, who have a modest 3.77 implied team total.
Rougned Odor showed impressive power in 2016, slugging 33 home runs with a .231 isolated power. But he's not exactly known for his plate discipline, as he walked just 3% of the time with a mediocre 21.4% strikeout rate.
This makes the free-swinging Odor a risky play against Cotton and his strikeout potential.
