Orioles' manager Buck Showalter made an interesting move three games ago, moving Adam Jones to the top of the Orioles’ lineup in an effort to get the free-swinging Jones to be more patient at the plate.
This season, Jones hasn’t been great. His ISO has dropped all the way to .131, his wOBA has bottomed out at .289 and his hard rate has fallen below 20% for the first time since 2012.
But Showalter's move has paid dividends. Jones already has two walks in three games in the leadoff spot; he only recorded two walks in his previous nine games hitting lower in the order. He’s also scored a run in each of the last three contests as he sets the table for one of the most powerful offenses in baseball.
Many DFS players will look at Steven Wright's awesome 2016 stats and stay away from Jones and the Orioles. But Wright still allows a 34.8% hard-hit rate to righties, making Jones an excellent target today.
