On paper, a marriage between Murray and the Detroit Lions makes little sense for all parties involved. The Lions already had Ameer Abdullah on the roster before signing LeGarrette Blount in free agency and spending a second-round pick on Kerryon Johnson. They also have Theo Riddick to catch passes out of the backfield.
Blount was, it should be noted, only a tick more efficient on a per-play basis than Murray, with a Rushing NEP per play mark of -0.09, but he occupies the same type of bruiser role and comes in around the same age (31) with fewer injury concerns.
It should be noted that Murray visited with the team in March, shortly after his release from the Titans. So they may look to rekindle the connection should an injury occur in camp, or if they decide (for some odd reason) that Murray is a better option than Blount. But with a young, high draft pick in Johnson, it would take a lot for Murray to walk into a consistent rotation or workload.
The lower return makes this a stay-away bet until further notice.
