Travis Kelce, the man they call "Zeus," was held to a relatively quiet game last Thursday night against the Denver Broncos. But the Broncos are currently rocking the second-best passing defense in the league according to our metrics, with a ferocious pass-rush coming from Demarcus Ware and Von Miller, and a very solid secondary headlined by Chris Harris and Aqib Talib. Thus, it's a little more understandable that Andy Reid utilized his big tight end more for decoy and blocking purposes.
But clearly, getting Kelce more involved in the passing game in Week 1 had the better effect for the team. And the potential game script for Week 3, based on the current over/under of 49 (currently the highest of the week), pegging the Packers as 6.5-point favorites, leads me to believe that the Chiefs will have to play some catch up. Consider Kelce Alex Smith's darling when he needs to throw the ball, because it sure as hell won't be a wide receiver if we are to believe recent history.
The game script Vegas envisions, plus his two-touchdown upside, makes Kelce a good tournament option in Week 3. I'm rostering him across a lot of my lineups this week.
