Daily Fantasy Golfer Picks for BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club
All stats cited below originate at FantasyNational. Strokes gained data includes stats from the past calendar year and is adjusted based on my field strength and recency tweaks. Putting surface splits also come from FantasyNational and include the past 50 rounds when possible, unless noted. All ranks and percentile ranks are among the field.
Best of the Best
Jon Rahm (FanDuel Salary: $12,000 | Golf odds Win Odds: +600) - I'm just going to lock in Rahm in cash-game formats until he falls apart. We're getting four guaranteed rounds of the world's best golfer this week, and for him to fall behind significantly over 72 holes would take quite the outlier performance. Rahm's averaging 2.55 strokes gained per round with field strength and recency adjustments over the past year, per my database, and that's more than 0.70 strokes per round better than anyone else in the field. The salary just doesn't reflect that dominance.
Patrick Cantlay ($10,700 | +2200) - Cantlay is pretty locked in right now, and he ranks fifth in my combo model for the week (which looks at recent stats and current form) but comes in well below an $11,000 salary. Cantlay ranks in the 96th percentile in adjusted strokes gained: tee to green over the past year, and he's in the 90th percentile in bentgrass putting over the past 100 rounds.
Others to Consider:
Dustin Johnson ($11,200 | +2000) - A great salary for DJ, who played here in 2007 in college and who is still in the 93rd percentile tee to green.
Viktor Hovland ($10,300 | +3100) - Is 3rd in my combo model and in the 93rd percentile in birdie-or-better rate gained the past 50 rounds.
Paul Casey ($10,100 | +3400) - Poor putting held him back last week but 88th percentile tee to green the past year with adjustments.
Mid-Range Picks
Hideki Matsuyama ($9,800 | +3400) - This is such a great salary for Hideki, who ranks 15th in the field in datagolf's true strokes gained over the past three months -- and is 4th tee to green in that span. Matsuyama surprisingly lost strokes from approach at THE NORTHERN TRUST but gained on the greens. Overall, we're virtually guaranteed strokes gained from ball-striking for just $9,800.
Joaquin Niemann ($9,400 | +5000) - Niemann was 47th last week at THE NORTHERN TRUST while gaining strokes in all three tee-to-green facets but losing with the putter despite playing bentgrass greens, where he historically putts his best. Niemann's irons have him in the 57th percentile, but his driver has him in the 88th percentile in strokes gained.
Others to Consider:
Corey Conners ($9,600 | +3300) - T8 last week despite losing around and on the greens, which is peak Corey Conners.
Sam Burns ($9,300 | +5000) - T21 at THE NORTHERN TRUST, his fourth top-25 in five starts.
Low-Salaried Picks
Jason Kokrak ($9,000 | +6500) - The ball-striking for Kokrak is hard to find at this salary range, and he ranks fifth among all golfers with a salary at $9,000 or below in ball-striking strokes gained over the past year with recency and field-strength adjustments baked in. Kokrak has positive putting splits on bentgrass, as well, and he is in the 82nd percentile in birdie-or-better rate gained.
Charley Hoffman ($8,500 | +10000) - Hoffman actually ranks third among value golfers in ball-striking and is in the 87th percentile in birdie-or-better rate gained, too. He's a weaker putter on bentgrass but has gained an average of 0.01 strokes per round on the surface over his past 100 rounds. It'll play for $8,500.
Others to Consider:
Cameron Tringale ($8,800 | +6500) - Easily the best long-term golfer below $9,000 but not the most ideal stats profile for Caves Valley.
Brian Harman ($8,300 | +10000) - Irons are poor for the field strength here but played the course in 2007 and overall has good form.
Emiliano Grillo ($7,600 | +12000) - Has 79th-percentile iron play, a strong mark for such a low salary.
Max Homa ($7,600 | +12000) - Plus iron play, distance, and birdie rate for a low salary.
Talor Gooch ($7,400 | +15000) - Super balanced golfer and a good bentgrass putter.
