Why He Will Go Overlooked:

With such a small slate, Jacob deGrom and Jose Quintana will probably the two highest owned pitchers, especially in cash setting, leading to low ownership for Mike Montgomery.

Why You Should Use Him:

Montgomery has been primarily used as a reliever in 2016, making 41 appearances and only 4 starts. He's been effective this year, posting a 3.48 SIERA and 22.7% strikeout rate. What's interesting is that Montgomery has been effective as both a starter and a reliever, posting a 3.88 xFIP and 22.5% strikeout rate as a starter, compared to a 3.50 xFIP and 22.8% strikeout rate as reliever.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants have a wOBA of .314 in the second half, which ranks 19th. While the Giants don't strike out a ton (18.5%), Montgomery makes for an interesting tournament option as San Francisco's 3.28 implied total is the second-lowest of the day and the wind is blowing in at Wrigley.
