3 Veteran Outfielders Worth Targeting in Fantasy Baseball
Rajai Davis, Oakland Athletics
When Rajai Davis, now 36 years old, last played for the Oakland Athletics back in 2010, he stole a career-high 50 bases. His 2016 season with the Cleveland Indians saw Davis hit double-digit home runs for the first time, highlighted by some World Series heroics. He also stole more than 40 bases for the fifth time in 11 seasons.
Early comments from the A's general manager suggest that Davis was brought in to be the team's leadoff hitter and starting center fielder, which is key since Oakland lacks depth at that position.
While the A's typically challenge for the fewest stolen bases among all 30 teams, they saw Davis swipe nearly a 100 bags over the two full seasons in which he played for them. He's also someone the noncompetitive Athletics could put on the trading block at this summer's deadline, which could result in a move to a contender in need of a leadoff hitter. Otherwise, there could be a downgrade in opportunities during the second half unless Oakland's offense improves this season.
If speed is something you find yourself looking for late in the drafts, Davis is going just outside the top 50 outfielders at pick 219.3 in NFBC drafts. FantasyPros are ranking him well outside the top 60.
