Fantasy Baseball: A Value Hitter at Every Position
Yasmani Grandal, C, Los Angeles Dodgers
Two seasons ago -- his first with the Los Angeles Dodgers -- Yasmani Grandal made the 2015 All-Star team with a .282 average and 14 home runs in 68 games in the first half. The second half was marred by a shoulder issue that led to an abysmal .162 average over Grandal’s final 46 games. Offseason shoulder surgery and a sore right forearm caused Grandal to begin 2016 with a short stay on disabled list.
After a modest start to the season, things really picked in the power department for Grandal beginning in late June -- presumably well past any lingering post-surgery shoulder limitations. Over his final 75 games last year, Grandal hit 22 of his career-high 27 home runs and posted a .929 OPS during that span.
The switch-hitting Grandal doesn't have significant platoon splits as he posted a .347 wOBA against lefties and a .351 wOBA versus righties in 2016 -- so the Dodgers can play him in any situation. He doesn't turn 29 until November and is currently going around pick 150 in early NFBC drafts. He has the upside of a top-five player at his position, which is a thin one, yet Grandal can be had as the No. 8 catcher, per FantasyPros expert consensus rankings.
