Which players didn't bust and instead exceeded the expectations of their draft position?
Player | Position | WAR | Actual Pick | Re-Draft Pick | Difference |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Joba Chamberlain | RHP | 6.8 | 41 | 10 | 31 |
Chris Coghlan | 3B | 6.7 | 36 | 11 | 25 |
Adam Ottavino | RHP | 3.1 | 30 | 12 | 18 |
There isn't one huge name that stands out, but Joba Chamberlain has had a respectable run as a starting and relief pitcher. He had his best season in 2008 and then proceeded to win a World Series with the Yankees in 2009.
Chris Coghlan also has a World Series ring from his 2016 run with the Chicago Cubs. Other than that, the eight-year veteran has been a valuable and versatile player off the bench.
As for Adam Ottavino, he has appeared in 232 games in seven seasons and has an ERA of 3.75 to show for it. He's even added 9 wins and 11 saves in that same span, making for a sustainable career from the bullpen.
