Tonight, the Arizona Diamondbacks are facing Jarred Cosart, hardly a scary sight on the mound. In 13 starts last year, Cosart had a 5.40 SIERA with a 14.2% strikeout rate and 14.6% walk rate. Those are some ugly, ugly numbers.

So why then am I saying to avoid David Peralta and Jake Lamb? The one thing Cosart does do well is keep the ball on the ground. In his career against left-handed bats, he has an elite 62.2% ground-ball rate and 24.2% hard-hit rate. The game is also being played in run-suppressing Petco Park.

Between the ground balls, lack of hard contact and a pitcher's park, the likelihood of Peralta or Lamb hitting one out isn't great.

Cosart has struggled with walks throughout his career, so in GPPs you could consider a Diamondbacks stack with the hope he unravels and it turns into a bullpen game. But generally speaking, particularly in cash games, there's no reason to force any Diamondbacks in when there are better spots to exploit.
