It feels like I've been picking on the Arizona Diamondbacks a lot this week, but that's what often happens when you're playing at pitcher-friendly Petco Park!
Today is no different, as the Diamondbacks have an implied total of just 3.79 despite facing off against Clayton Richard.
But Richard actually isn't an ideal guy to pick on to begin with because he gives up such little hard contact. Last year, he may have had a 4.46 SIERA and 13.4% strikeout rate, but he also had a 65.1% ground-ball rate and 25.9% hard-hit rate. Even considering he spent a lot of time in relief, he still has a 52.1% ground-ball rate across his whole career.
If the Diamondbacks can get to Richard, they're more likely to dink and dunk their way to a big inning, rather than get the home runs we look for in DFS.
This downgrades all Diamondbacks, and in particular, Yasmany Tomas is in a tough spot. He has a 50.4% career ground-ball rate, which won't play well against a ground-ball pitcher like Richard. The same can be said of Brandon Drury ($2,800), and his own 51.1% career ground-ball rate.
