Not a lot of players are making contact as well as Robinson Chirinos has lately.
Among hitters with at least 10 batted balls over the past 15 days, Chirinos ranks seventh in average exit velocity and second in average batted-ball distance. He has been turning that into huge production, but his price tag has barely budged.
He draws a righty-versus-righty matchup tonight against Phil Hughes, but with Hughes' reverse platoon splits, having allowed a .328 wOBA on a 32.5% hard-hit rate to right-handed hitters over his career (and an especially bad .335 wOBA on a 39.6% hard-hit rate in 2016), this isn't a matchup that's likely to slow Chirinos down.
