4 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Baseball Plays for 5/8/17
Jayson Werth, OF, Washington Nationals
FanDuel Price: $3,100
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
The Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies kick off a series in Coors Field, and that's sure to mean high ownership for members of both teams. Throw in Ian Desmond, who doesn't appear to have missed a beat coming off the disabled list, and this is likely to be a heavily-played game on the slate.
Even with an offense like the Washington Nationals, who lead the league in most statistical categories, Jayson Werth continues to see low ownership. Perhaps it's the few days he missed earlier in April, but Werth has been a strong producer and still hasn't been a must-play for many.
Why You Should Use Him:
With all of the shuffling this team has had to do with injuries to Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper, Werth has recently settled into the two-hole, and it's paid immediate dividends.
He's racked up eight hits in his last three contests, including a two-homer day on Sunday. The veteran outfielder has also added three steals so far on the young season.
Werth and company have a local showdown with Kevin Gausman of the Baltimore Orioles, who has been really bad in 2017. Over his first 31 innings pitched, Gausman has put up a 5.59 SIERA and a 30.4% hard-hit rate while walking 11.8% of hitters.
The Nationals offense has certainly garnered a lot of attention, but Werth hasn't -- he gives you exposure to a great matchup in a fantastic offense at a cheap salary.
