4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 5/9/17
Xander Bogaerts, SS, Boston Red Sox
FanDuel Price: $3,800
Look, if you're stacking the Boston Red Sox against Wily Peralta, then by all means use Xander Bogaerts, who's been hitting out of the three spot lately.
As a one-off, though, he's harder to rationalize. Bogaerts has been playing a lot more like his 2015 self with a heavy dose of ground balls (57.6% rate) and less hard contact (26.1% hard-hit rate). He appears to be going for a more contact-heavy approach as shown by career-best clips in contact rate (86.9%) and strikeout rate (9.8%).
While that's all well and good, the power has fallen off the table as he has zero home runs and a .078 isolated power (ISO).
We could live with that when his price was $3,100, but at his current salary, you want a little more pop in the bat, and he doesn't make up enough for that with speed (three stolen bases).
He could still post a high score if the Red Sox offense blows up, which is why he remains viable in stacks, but without that sort of game, he's unlikely to pay off on his own.
