Stephen Strasburg's strikeout numbers are down this year after posting a mark above 30.0% in 2016. His 11.0% swinging-strike rate is right in line with his 11.2% career average and unchanged from what he posted last year, and his velocity on every single pitch type is up from where it was in 2016. The strikeouts may not be there yet, but with numbers like that, they're likely going to come.

The Pittsburgh Pirates admittedly aren't a great matchup for strikeout potential, with only a 19.0% strikeout rate against righties on the season, but they've also been pretty terrible against righties in general, ranking 27th with a 76 wRC+.

Strasburg's batted-ball profile has also been excellent to start the season, and the 23.7% soft-hit rate he's allowing is a career-high, while his 49.2% ground-ball rate is the second-highest of his career.
