4 Under-the-Radar Daily Fantasy Baseball Plays for 5/17/17
Eric Sogard, 2B, Milwaukee Brewers
FanDuel Price: $2,400
Why He Will Go Overlooked:
Ubaldo Jimenez of the Baltimore Orioles has been really bad so far this season -- he's posted a 5.44 SIERA over 33 2/3 innings pitched and already allowed eight homers. Ian Kinsler is licking his chops in quite a tasty matchup.
Recently called up from Triple-A, Eric Sogard has just 13 plate appearances this year for the Milwaukee Brewers. He did not record a plate appearance at the major league level last season and is sure to be off most radars.
Why You Should Use Him:
Sogard's a bit of an unknown commodity -- he hasn't see a ton of time at the major-league role, and most players may remember him in a super-utility role for the Oakland Athletics in 2015, where he saw 401 plate appearances.
Batting primarily out of the second slot in the order, he will have a tough matchup with the Padres starter Jhoulys Chacin, who's been brilliant at home. Where Chacin may have a weakness, however, is left-handed hitters. They've posted a pretty healthy .382 wOBA and .561 slugging percentage against him this year.
Given the lack of playing time and a starter that's enjoyed a good park, Sogard probably won't be a heavily-owned option, but could provide a nice pivot play at a cheap price point.
