Trevor Bauer, SP, Cleveland Indians

Of the pitchers on the slate with high strikeout rates, the only one I didn't mention earlier was Trevor Bauer, who has an impressive 25.9% rate. He may have an ugly 6.92 ERA, but his 3.75 SIERA and .350 BABIP shows he's a whole lot better than that.

The trouble is that Bauer gets a terrible matchup against the Houston Astros, who are sporting a 124 wRC+ against righties with an 18.3% strikeout rate. The Astros also have a healthy 4.47 implied team total lined up against him.

Additionally, his whiffs thus far aren't supported by his modest 8.9% swinging-strike rate, which suggests he's due for some regression.

With a slew of better high-upside options available today at various price points, even as a contrarian choice, Bauer isn't worth it.
