Luis Severino has opened 2017 with his 3.15 SIERA, 28.0% strikeout rate, 6.7% walk rate and 11.0% swinging-strike rate -- all representing career-best clips.

He is dealing some heat with an average pitch velocity that ranks 26th among the 340 hurlers who have thrown at least 250 pitches this season. Severino has only allowed an average batted-ball distance of 160 feet -- which ranks in the top 25% among pitchers who have allowed at least 30 batted balls in 2017.

The Kansas City Royals don't strike out a ton, though Severino's strong strikeout rate may impact that, but the Royals rank 29th with a 65 wRC+ against right-handed hurlers this season, making this a great spot for Severino to continue his hot start to the season.
