3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 6/15/17
Aaron Hicks, OF, New York Yankees
FanDuel Price: $3,700
On a Yankees team that's been full of surprises, the biggest one may very well be Aaron Hicks, who has supplanted Jacoby Ellsbury as the team's starting centerfielder.
Early in the season, Hicks seemed like a flash in the pan, but all he's done is keep hitting, which has earned him a lucrative fantasy lineup slot, batting second for the Bronx Bombers.
But he's starting to get up there in price, and he won't keep up a .418 wOBA all year. His BABIP (.341) and home-run-to-fly-ball rate (18.5%) are way above his career levels, and regression will come eventually. After all, this is someone who entered the season with a .223 career batting average. Still, he's showing improved plate discipline, including a robust 15.9% walk rate, so he should be able to maintain some of his newfound success.
Against a revitalized Sonny Gray, who has a 3.56 SIERA, the Yankees don't have the best of matchups. If there's a strong wind blowing out, you might consider an Aaron Judge one-off in tournaments, but otherwise this doesn't look like one of those Yankee blow-up spots. Hicks should have value moving forward, but in this matchup and at this price, tonight isn't optimal.
