5 Prospects to Watch in the MLB Futures Game
Francisco Mejia, C, Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians don't have many holes, but catcher is a noticeable weakness. That's where Mejia might come in.
A top-rated backstop -- Baseball Prospectus has him third overall -- Mejia's prospect status skyrocketed in 2016 as he hit 11 bombs across two levels while posting a .414 wOBA at Low-A and a .393 wOBA at High-A. This season, he's slugged his way to a .406 wOBA and 9 taters in 245 plate appearances at Double-A.
Mejia is a converted infielder who doesn't have much experience behind the plate, so throwing him into the majors this season may be a tough ask. But the bat appears ready, and the Indians, an organization fully in win-now mode, may decide they want an offensive upgrade over Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez.
