Fantasy Baseball: 4 Pitchers to Stream for Week 16
Eduardo Rodriguez, Boston Red Sox
Starts: July 17th vs. Toronto Blue Jays, July 22nd at Los Angeles Angels
ESPN ownership: 49 percent
Returning from a month on the shelf with a knee injury, Boston Red Sox Eduardo Rodriguez is the prime two-start target for Week 16. It's a bit of a surprise that Rodriguez is still around for the taking in the majority of leagues: save for his last start before injury (a seven-run, four-homer pasting by Baltimore), the 24-year-old southpaw has looked like an emerging ace, with a 2.77 ERA and 17% strikeout-minus-walk rate over his first 10 starts.
Perhaps some of the reticence towards Rodriguez is justified, seeing as how still looks like a two-pitch pitcher (or should I say, two-good-pitch pitcher), with his fourseam and changeup surrendering 87 and 69 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) on the season while his three secondary offerings have all given up over 180 apiece.
Even so, Rodriguez has a relatively soft landing for his first week back with the big club, as both the Blue Jays and the Angels are average or worse in terms of producing off of lefties. The potential for innings limitation and general rust could certainly cap Rodriguez's upside, but even with these uncertainties in play, the young southpaw seems like the best target for volume strikeouts on your wire this week.
