Jose Ramirez hasn't been especially productive recently, but a large part of that is the fact that he's been landing on the wrong side of variance, with a .231 BABIP in August, as compared to a .312 on the season and a .333 in 2016.

He has had a strong 2017 campaign, with a .365 wOBA and .219 ISO through 123 games, and he has made solid contact against southpaws, with a 32.2% hard-hit rate and 10.1% soft-hit rate.

He brings that into a plus matchup today against Kansas City Royals lefty Jason Vargas, who has a 4.70 SIERA on the season, while allowing a 33.8% hard-hit rate to right-handed bats.
