Andrew Benintendi, OF, Boston Red Sox

After failing to record a hit on opening day, Andrew Benintendi faces a tough matchup Friday against Tampa Bay' lefty Blake Snell. Buoyed by mechanical adjustments, Snell surged down the stretch last year, posting a 12% swinging-strike rate in the second half of the season. More importantly, he's been extremely tough on lefties to start his career, striking them out 25.3% of the time.

This doesn't bode well for Benintendi, who struggled mightily against southpaws in his rookie season. The young outfielder wasn't particularly strikeout prone in the split, but where he truly suffered was in his ability to square up the ball. He generated just a 24.4% hard-hit rate against lefties last year compared to 36.6% against righties.

This inability to hit the ball hard was a big reason he produced just a 71 wRC+ against southpaws in 2017. Until further notice, Benintendi should be faded against lefties, especially those with high-strikeout potential like Snell.
