3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 4/6/18
Jose Altuve, 2B, Houston Astros
FanDuel Price: $4,600
There's no question that Jose Altuve was one of the biggest reasons the Houston Astros won the World Series last season. His contact ability combined with a mid-career power surge has him in the discussion as one of the best players in baseball. Against a San Diego Padres pitcher with an 11.25 ERA on the season, it may be tempting to stack up on Houston bats, and that usually includes their main man Altuve.
But there's a reason you should avoid all of Houston's right-handed bats, particularly Altuve.
Luis Perdomo has tremendously limited the damage of right-handed batters he's faced throughout his career. And it's not because he has struck out 18.9% of the right-handed batters he has faced, a thoroughly mediocre mark. It's not even due to his 29.5% hard-hit rate surrendered to right-handed hitters in his career. That mark is above average in terms of suppressing hard contact, but it's certainly not a reason to fade a hitter as great as Altuve.
It's the minuscule 17.3% fly-ball rate that Perdomo has allowed against right-handed batters in his career. We want our DFS hitters lifting balls in the air in order to gain the upside of extra-base hits. Perdomo's ability to force ground balls prevents that. And since Altuve actually has the widest wOBA disparity between left-handed and right-handed pitchers (.389 and .339 respectively) in his career among Houston's main right-handed bats (Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer, and Alex Bregman), he is an avoid on Friday.
