3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 4/11/18
Matt Olson, 1B, Oakland Athletics
FanDuel Price: $3,800
Matt Olson excelled during his cup of coffee in 2017, bopping 24 home runs in just 59 games. He's already added a pair of home runs in 2018. But, on Wednesday, we have a bad combination of a left-handed batter who struggles badly against southpaws facing a tough left-handed pitcher.
In an admittedly small sample size, Olson has recorded just 4 of his 26 career home runs against southpaws. His batted-ball profile confirms that he is far more likely to hit home runs against a right-handed pitcher than a left-handed pitcher. Against righties, Olson has an otherworldly 41.4% hard-hit rate and 48.0% fly-ball rate. Against lefties, however, those marks drop to 33.3% and 35.7%, respectively.
Those are still solid marks against left-handed pitchers, and it is a small sample. But that is before we take a look at the other side of the equation: Los Angeles Dodgers' lefty Alex Wood.
Wood has suppressed power from left-handed batters in his career, allowing them to post just a .275 wOBA and 7.4% home run-to-flyball rate. This includes a 24.8% strikeout-rate, 22.5% fly-ball rate, and 22.8% hard-hit rate against left-handed hitters. Olson is a clear avoid as his weakness matches up poorly with Wood's strengths.
