5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 5/17/18
Mike Zunino, C, Seattle Mariners
Price: $2,800
Mike Zunino has not produced well so far this season, but a large part of that can be attributed to his .239 batting average on balls in play (BABIP). His career-average BABIP sits at .272, and he's coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him notch a .355 BABIP over 435 plate appearances. So we can expect simple variance to lead to a boost in his production moving forward.
Over 154 plate appearances in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Zunino showed a ton of promise against southpaws. He turned in a 38.0% hard-hit rate, 13.9% soft-hit rate and 49.4% fly-ball rate, which translated to a .369 wOBA and .282 ISO.
He's up against left-hander Matt Boyd, who has a 4.71 SIERA overall with a 4.99 xFIP against right-handed bats in his four seasons, making this a good spot for Zunino to get going.
