Kyle Hendricks has been one of the lone bright spots in the rotation for the Chicago Cubs, pitching to the tune of a 3.16 ERA. However, his contact management has suffered so far in 2018, as he is allowing a 33.5% hard-hit rate with a 3.77 SIERA.
He already has issues striking out batters, as he has just a 9.0% swinging-strike rate on the season. This severely caps his upside, and against the Pittsburgh Pirates -- a team that strikes out just 19.5% of the time against right-handed pitching (third-best in baseball) -- it only serves to complicate matters.
With Josh Harrison back from injury and youngster Austin Meadows seeing the ball well, Hendricks is up against it in a road start against a familiar divisional foe. For all these reasons, Hendricks is an avoid as the fourth-most costly pitcher on the main slate.
