3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 6/4/18
Giancarlo Stanton, OF, New York Yankees
FanDuel Price: $4,900
After enjoying a career year in his final year with the Fish, Giancarlo Stanton has struggled as a member of the New York Yankees. He is still hitting the ball hard, but his fly-ball rate is down to 34.3%.
More importantly, Stanton is struggling to just put the bat on the ball. His swinging-strike rate of 16.3% would be the highest of his career if it holds up. And while Mike Fiers certainly shouldn't scare anybody, he lowers the ceiling on Stanton simply because he is a right-handed pitcher.
Stanton has traditionally struggled against right-handed pitching, at least compared to the damage he inflicts upon southpaws. Against left-handers in his career, he has posted a 174 wRC+, 23.1% strikeout rate, and 13.3% walk rate. Those numbers are all significantly worse against right-handers however, as he has recorded a 133 wRC+, 29.3% strikeout rate, and 11.1% walk rate in the split.
In 2018, Stanton's platoon splits have only gotten more inflated as he has a 227 wRC+ against left-handers and a 73 wRC+ against righties. Combined with his inability to consistently make contact, Stanton isn't worth the enormous price tag, especially in cash games.
