Shohei Ohtani, P, Los Angeles Angels

There are some workload concerns around Shohei Ohtani as he was pulled after five innings despite a solid performance in his last outing, but combining that with the fact that he had his previous start skipped, he should be fresh tonight. We're also a bit thin on top-end pitching options on Wednesday's main slate, making it easier to stomach some risk.

Ohtani has turned in a stellar start to his Major League career on the mound with a 3.28 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 31.3% strikeout rate. That SIERA ranks second among starting pitchers on tonight's slate while his strikeout rate ranks first and comes with a deadly 15.5% swinging-strike rate (which also ranks first).

His matchup today is a soft one, and while the Kansas City Royals don't strike out a ton, Ohtani's numbers still give him some upside regardless of matchup. KC sits a lowly 23rd in wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and their 3.25 implied total is Wednesday's lowest. The Los Angeles Angels are also the day's biggest favorites with a -245 moneyline.
