Buy Trea Turner

Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner may not be having the kind of offensive season one would have expected out of him, but that is precisely why this is a good buying opportunity.

Sure, his batting average (.254) is 30 percentage points lower than last year's clip (.284), but his on-base percentage (.339) is actually a tiny bit better than last year's (.338). He is striking out a lot more -- 11.1% this year, compared to 6.7% last season -- and his power has gone away (.451 slugging percentage last year to a .387 mark this season).

However, he is still stealing bags, with 18 so far this year, and it's clear he's been the victim of some bad luck. He has a BABIP of .294, which is just below league average, but it's pretty low for a speedy player who has hit about the same amount of line drives (16.6%) as last year (14.8%), yet has lost 30 percentage points off his batting average. It's also encouraging that his hard-hit rate, according to Fangraphs, is 34.8%, up from 26.7% a year ago.

Many owners may be down on Turner, so now is a good time to snag a high stolen-base guy whose offensive numbers should improve.
