Jon Lester, SP, Chicago Cubs

Jon Lester has had a terrific year on paper, boasting a sparkling 2.22 ERA along with 7 victories for the Chicago Cubs. However, his strikeout (21.2%) and walk (8.7%) rates are very mediocre. The batted-ball profile that he has surrendered is not very promising either, as it includes a 38.9% fly-ball rate and 34.6% hard-hit rate against.

Lester's stellar ERA will likely regress to a mark closer to his 4.31 SIERA, and a road matchup against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals is probably not the spot to hope he escapes with good fortune.

This season, the Cardinals rank fifth in baseball in walk rate against left-handed pitching, which can ultimately amount to more free base runners and drive up an opposing pitcher's pitch count up. The Cardinals also boast the eighth-highest hard-hit rate against southpaws, so Lester will have to work to keep those base runners from coming around to score.
