Matt Carpenter, 3B, St. Louis Cardinals

After a rough start to 2018, Matt Carpenter has been a boss recently. Since May 15th, Carpenter has been one of the best hitters in baseball, recording a .443 weighted on-base average (wOBA), .317 isolated power (ISO), and 56.5% hard-hit rate. Not bad.

But tonight he could be in for tough sledding. He will be opposed by lefty Robbie Ray, and Carpenter has not been at his best in this split. Over 64 plate appearances this season, the third baseman has recorded only a .299 wOBA and 26.6% strikeout rate.

If we go back to last season, it hasn't been much better. In 2017, Carpenter recorded only a .302 wOBA and 23.4% strikeout rate, and Ray held lefties to a .268 wOBA with a 39.8% strikeout rate a year ago.
