Even with a couple of down fantasy outings lately, Max Scherzer still ranks in the top five among all pitchers with 45.3 FanDuel points per game on the year. He also ranks second among qualified arms with a 2.62 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 35.4% strikeout rate. His swinging-strike rate ranks first in the Majors by a big margin, sitting at 17.0%.

Tonight, he draws a matchup with the New York Mets, who rank only 20th in wRC+ against right-handed pitching while also sitting in the middle of the pack with a 21.7% strikeout rate.

The Mets' 2.90 implied total is the lowest on the slate, and the Washington Nationals' -210 moneyline is Thursday's highest. Combining his ridiculous numbers with a plus matchup, it's no surprise that numberFire's models also project Scherzer as the day's top-scoring pitcher.
