3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 7/13/18
Carlos Martinez, SP, St. Louis Cardinals
FanDuel Price: $8,800
Carlos Martinez is another pitcher who is having a down season but not getting much bad publicity for it. In Keuchel's case, it is because of overall team success. For Martinez, it is because he carries a 3.05 ERA into his final start before the All Star Break, in spite of some mediocre peripherals.
Martinez's 11.9% walk rate would be by far the highest of his career if it holds up for the remainder of the year. He has also recorded career worsts in fly-ball rate (32.9%) and hard-hit rate (36.7%). Furthermore, his 9.9% swinging-strike rate is down slightly from his career 10.4% rate. In fact, it is a testament to Martinez's previous success that he can have a down year in so many areas and still post respectable marks.
Still, the stats are down in every facet of his pitching performance, and the Cincinnati Reds are no rollover matchup. Against right-handed pitching, the Reds rank 5th in walk to strikeout ratio, 8th in wOBA (.321), and 10th in hard-hit rate (37.6%). Given the matchup and price, this is a safe place to steer clear of this evening.
