The Seattle Mariners' 4.88 implied total is Friday's second-highest mark as they take on righty James Shields and the Chicago White Sox.

Shields has a 4.98 SIERA this season, and with a 4.94 in 2017 and 5.12 in 2016, there's not much room for optimism.

He has an especially shaky 5.13 xFIP against left-handed bats, making this a terrific spot for Denard Span. Span has produced well against righties this year, turning a 32.9% hard-hit rate into a .345 wOBA and .177 ISO over 233 plate appearances.
